Itoshi wo Tome: On Progress Blog

Hey everyone,

I don't know what the story is with my editor. Beotkkot hasn't written me in weeks.
Rather than make you all wait, I started my progress blog:

The new manga is called Itoshi wo Tome. (Edit: Not Aishi wo Tome like I thought it was) I have up to around 2 chapters done and just starting the 3rd. Chapter 1 is up. Nothing but semi-cleaned raws and a script. All I did was rotate and crop, and put the script below each page. Beotkkot will have a fantastic edit in release format for you later. We all know my editing skills are nowhere near Beotkkot's, so I won't be able to do much alone...

So for now, enjoy chapter 1 of Itoshi wo Tome. As time goes on, I'll keep adding pages. Perhaps I can get one or two pages done a day, maybe more. Just bookmark the Progress Blog to see what projects I'm working on and how far I am in them.

I never found a Selfish 1, and when I translated this one, I looked around first to see if anyone had already translated this. I didn't see any. If someone had already translated this, let us know immediately!

Who knew Konata could stir up trouble just by sitting down to lunch? Things get a little crazy, then Kagami tries to explain it to Tsukasa. A doujin nicely done to the pace and humor of Lucky Star.

Apparently PangYa is an online golf game. I haven't tried it yet. Anyone here play it?

Arin is on vacation, when her rival Kooh shows up, demanding a golf match! After a bout with a lot of cheating and foul play, Kooh crosses the line, and is at the mercy of Arin.

We're contemplating making a static credits page for each release. What should it look like? Or is our current style of putting credits over an image from the doujin working? We'll experiment and see. I still have to draw my own custom avatar.

Hey people! Looks like I did a Shoujo-Ai this time. Quite a nice change of pace, ne?

Thanks to Beotkkot for helping me with some translation problems I had, and for the awesome edit! It's translations like this one that show how vague Japanese can be sometimes, so it's sometimes hard to get it into the right English context. But nonetheless, Haruka x Michiru forever!
The next translation is already done, (waiting for our editor) and my 5th translation is in progress. But I want to see some requests (and new unique page views!) people!

Edit! My first commenter by email, none other than the friendly H.S.! I thought my text inputting looked a little ugly. This person told me about anti-alias, a feature I did not even know about!

Also, I ditched Paint Shop Pro 6 because it crashed every time I tried to use Wild Words and Anti Alias together. Meh. Corel Paint Shop Pro X seems to work, but I'm still getting used to it.

Advice! Links! The programs to use!

I'm talking about translations.
The more help I get, quite possibly the more I can translate!
As I said before, I want to do one translation about every other month. I do have things to do, and I can't devote every waking moment to Yuri.

First of all! Let me tell you what I have and use.
-4 years of college Japanese (Japanese was my minor)
-a Nintendo DS with Kanji Sonomama DS Rakubiki Jiten (It's a Kanji lookup dictionary! You just draw in the kanji on the touch screen! It's awesome! Anyone who studies Japanese and has a DS should import it! I recomend getting Kanken DS too, if you like taking Kanji quizzes.)
-A laptop. (with Vista... blech! Thinking of dual booting and having Ubuntu as well)
-Rikai-chan (Free! Check it out, it can integrate with Firefox and can look up Japanese words on webpages just by moving your mouse over)
-JWPce (Japanese Word Processing program! Free! Includes full Kanji database and dictionary! best study and work tool ever)
-A HP 1310 Scanner/Printer. (It's not the best, but it gets the job done)
-Jasc Paint Shop Pro 6: I use Paint Shop Pro 6 for image editing and drawing. I've been using it to practice translation finalizing. However, it proved obsolete when it crashed whenever I tried to use Anti-Alias.
-Corel Paint Shop Pro X. I'm still getting used to the interface, but at least it can use Anti-Alias without crashing.

Ok... so that's where I stand. I can pretty much look up any Kanji (though I wish I could find a kanji-draw-in-tool lookup thing as a computer program).
And... yeah. I don't use Photoshop. Should I?

I also decided to use Wild Words, a font I hear is most commonly used for manga editing.

So where do I stand? What should I be using? Does having a minor in Japanese, and even surviving a one year study abroad trip to Tokyo qualify me to translate? Hope so.

I've got a full translation done right now, and I'm stuck on the whole "how to put words into baloons" thing. What if I'm doing it wrong? And what about the whole sound effects issue... edit them to english or leave them in with translations?

My first official translation is done. It will be my practice one. After that, I'm relying on you guys to help me make the stuff you want better! I've also decided my second translation will be a commission. So pick one fast before everyone else, or pick one everyone wants! My decision is final when I decide, so I can't please everyone!

Right! Can't wait for everyone's advice! Catch you on the flip side!
