Youko's sudden appeal to the sports teams helps to balance the relationship a bit against Shuu's "school idol" status (and the fact that she...he...it? ^_^ ) is a vampire so it doesn't get into "Character A is godlike and Character B is...a nice person" like so many romances. And I love how she was openly curious about what a genderless person, er, "looks like."
